About Randy
As Vice President, Marketing for Boeing Commercial Airplanes from 1998-2007, Randy Baseler devoted his time to putting together market strategies and forecasts and traveling the world talking about commercial aviation. A big part of Randy’s job involved meeting with financial analysts, industry observers, and airline customers, and talking with reporters in the aviation and business media.

Randy’s Journal started in January 2005 as a way to expand this conversation to the Web. And in its first two years, the blog saw more than a half million individual visits. Sometimes it’s a place to get the inside scoop about a new airplane program, or view some cool images. Other times Randy shared marketing data and insight from the many presentations he gave around the world.
Randy keeps his competitive juices flowing by staying current on all aspects of the commercial airplanes marketplace. He has helped guide Boeing’s planning and product development over the years - working extensively with airlines and industry leaders in both selling and developing products.
Before being named vice president of marketing, Randy was director of marketing for the Airline Profitability Analysis organization. He was also senior manager for the Renton Division Marketing Management organization, responsible for the Boeing 737 and 757 programs. Randy also developed product strategy for the 747 and 767 airplane programs. He helped develop the marketing and product strategy for the 767X, which became the Boeing 777.
Randy has a bachelor’s degree in business from Central Washington University and a master’s degree in business administration, with a specialization in finance, from Washington State University. He is a member of the Advisory Board for the College of Business and Economics at both institutions, and a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.
Retiring from the Boeing Company on April 30, 2007, Randy now has plenty of time to enjoy outdoor activities with his family, including skiing, camping, fishing, coaching soccer, and cheering on the Washington State University Cougars, as well as traveling the highways and byways of the United States.
